Before the advent of the 90's, very
little was known in the United States, and still knowledge is rare, of the powerful methods known to some in the martial arts community.
Most people to this day view martial arts as a practice onlyfor the uneducated.
As the fitness revolution has evolved through the 80''s and 90''s people have searched to find the ultimate formula of
diet, exercise, etc., a magic pill, if you will, which when ingested wll solve all their problems concerning health, life, and mortality.
The best exercise is not just physical training which ignores the spirit and soul, and neglects the
source of life within us. We should understand that life is more than the body. If we allow our minds to remain flaccid and lazy then the
body itself will suffer.
A good example might be the person who goes to the gym and trains regularly, and trains hard, yet cannot control his
anger. Although one does achieve a measure of stress reduction through regular exercise, it is very much like trying to fill a bucket with
a hole in its base. One cannot succeed regardless of the effort.
Better it would be to achieve a harmony of both mind and body through a fully integrated approach. A method that
trains every aspect of our being, through diligent practice in right method makes it possible to rejuvenate amd unify our being.
Thus unified, we can abide in the source of life which has existed from before the beginning. This primordial source is known to the
Chinese as Wu Chi.
Not all martial art measures up to this criterion, just as it is true that most martial artists do
not consider this concept of integration important. For some, the obsession with ways to hurt others is foremost. For the misguided, the
martial arts is merely a path leading from death to death.
It could be said that due to our mortality, most of our actions lead to death. This is more obviously true for some who
seek out death through self-destructive behavior, or actions which cause harm to others.
If we seek the point of life within, if we discover the hidden treasures of life which abide within our own selves, we
will also obtain balance. Not seeking death, we find life instead. |
