Introduction
Wujido Martial Arts, formerly the Wujido
Institute, was established in 1992 in Dallas, Texas. Wujido Martial
Arts offers training in Traditional Old-style Shao-lin WuShu
(Kung Fu),
TaijiQuan (Tai Chi), and WujiQuan.
Since its inception the school has grown steadily into one of the most
respected and well-known schools in the Dallas area.
Our School
At Wujido Martial Arts in Dallas, we maintain
a combination of quality and effectiveness of training, and hold a well-known
priority of creating a clean and safe environment for everyone,
especially beginners. We have a virtually injury free environment that
encourages
cooperation rather than competition. A very strict code of discipline
combined with a friendly environment that can bring out the very best
in a person.
We have about 3000 square feet of air-conditioned training
space on a springy hardwood floor. About a third of this is covered with
Olympic
grade training mats. Classes
are currently offered in the evenings from 5PM to 9PM, and on Saturdays
from 10AM to 12PM. See the class schedules for each style under
"Curriculum Studies" at left.
Our Programs
The most popular program we have is our Shao-Lin
Kung fu program, but we also teach Yang style TaijiQuan,
and WujiQuan.
Shao-Lin
The Shao-lin style we
teach is called in Chinese; Wu-Xing-Ba-Fa-Lo-Han
Shao-Lin Quan Fa.
This means the Shao-Lin we teach
is made up of a group of specific styles and methods that are also Shao-Lin
styles. For instance, Wu-Xing means "5 Animals" or sometimes
it can refer to "5 Elements". The Chinese characters are the
same. In this case it is the "5 animal" styles of Tiger,
Crane, Dragon, Leopard, and Snake. Their names in Chinese are, Hu, He, Loong, Bao, Shi.
Ba-Fa means "eight
methods", Lohan means "monk" or "arhat". An
arhat or Arhant is a particular special Buddhist terminology that indicates
that someone has conquered his passions and has achieved supreme detachment
from this life and enlightened after the fashion of a Buddha or Bodhisattva.
The term Quan-Fa means literally "Fist
Method".
Therefore
we teach the FIVE ANIMALS EIGHT METHODS MONK BOXING
OF SHAOLIN. This is a rare style of Shao-Lin Kung Fu that teaches
the Shadow Stance and other unique and rare martial art methods. It
is an exceptionally cool style! It is both exceedingly effective and
incredibly comprehensive as many veteran Black Belts are discovering
here in Dallas.
Our Shao-Lin Kung Fu training covers punching, kicking,
blocking, and stance fundamentals, as well as break-falls, rolls, take-downs,
ground fighting, joint locks, and more.
TaijiQuan (Tai Chi)
We teach the Beijing 24 movement
form first for beginners, along with a full complement of training fundamentals.
Then we move on to an intermediate 48-movement form and then the 105
Yang family traditional routines. We also teach Taiji sword, called
Taiji Jian. There are two routines with 27 movements and a 36-movement
routine. We include Chi-Gong, Dao Yin yoga, and meditation training as
well.
WujiQuan
WujiQuan is to my knowledge the oldest
extant Chinese Martial Art. It originates from the former Han Dynasty.
It is a distant great grand father of Xingyi Quan. Its principles shape
the very core of all extant Chinese Wushu. In Beijing it is pronounced
Woo Yee.
It is an incredible technology. I like to compare it to other styles this way.
Most martial arts are Newtonian in their use of mechanical physics. WujiQuan
is QUANTUMN in how it utilizes both the internal and external forces, form
and formless aspects of movement, form, intention, and will. It is extraordinarily
impressive as a technology of combat.
